Cardito

This is a very pleasant route in summer because it crosses lush, cool woods, both in the initial uphill section towards San Biagio Saracinisco (about 12 km long) and then along Lake Cardito. The ups and downs that furrow the Mainarde chain is an area that was the scene of bloody battles between the Germans and the French in the winter of 1943/44. The descent from Valvori to Sant’Elia Fiumerapido is scenic and relaxing and then the 9.5km climb to Capodichino begins again.
